Impact Bay Area has been teaching full‐force self defense since 1985. We have taught thousands of students, many of whomreport successfully using the skills they learned even many years after taking the class. Our students tell us that they move through the world with greater confidence and success knowing that they have the physical skills at hand, even if they never use them. Impact Bay Area instructors received hundreds of hours of training to keep students physically and emotionally safe. Making these classes available to your employees is a great perk that employees really appreciate. They can also be a powerful team-building exercise and help to teach leadership skills to your employees.
All of our classes except the 1‐hour are limited to 16 students. Classes are open to all genders.

1‐hour Introduction to Personal Safety
This class, for groups of up to 100 participants, is intended to introduce people to Impact Bay Area’s approach to personal safety. Fundamentally, we believe that the best fight is no fight, and we know that most assaults can be avoided or prevented using awareness, intuition, body language, and voice. The physical skills taught in our longer classes give students increased confidence and a broad range of options, but even this short class will provide valuable tools for staying safe, including a simple and effective physical strike technique. The 1-hour class is a good way to gauge interest in offering a longer class at your company. $600
3‐hour Introduction to Full Force Self Defense
In this class, participants will practice using intuition, awareness, body language, and voice to deescalate and deter attacks. Students will also learn multiple physical techniques that they can practice full force in simulated fight scenarios. Scenarios include front and rear attacks as well as an introduction to fighting from the ground. People leave even this short introduction class feeling strong and often surprised by their own power and courage. $1,600 plus employee contribution of $25/person*
6‐hour Introduction to Full Force Self Defense
Students in the 6‐hour class learn all of the awareness, intuition, and verbal conflict avoidance/deterrence skills that are covered in the 3‐hour class as well as the foundational front and rear attack and ground fighting techniques. In the second half of the class, additional front, rear, and ground attack scenarios are layered on. $3,200 plus employee contribution of $50/person*
20-hour Impact Basics
The Basics class is our core curriculum, covering intuition, awareness, verbal boundary setting, and physical self defense skills in a variety of situations from encounters with strangers on a city street to sexual assault scenarios. Students build these skills over approximately 20 hours of class time, which we know is sufficient to truly program techniques into the body’s muscle memory so that they can be accessed even years later if needed. Students learn defenses against a wide variety of front and rear attacks, as well as many different sexual assault scenarios. By the end of class, they feel confident handling just about anything that comes at them on the mat or on the street. Students have the opportunity to create a custom fight to address a future fear, or to rewrite an ending to something that has happened to them in the past. In addition to mastering physical self defense skills, people who take this class often tell us that they gained confidence in all aspects of their lives. $8,000 (plus employee contribution of $100/person)*
*When teaching these classes in the workplace, Impact Bay Area requires employees to pay something towards the class. In many years of teaching self defense we have observed consistently that if people do not have some financial investment in the class many of them do not attend even after signing up. The employee contribution is a way to ensure that those who sign up take the class and has been a very successful model for us.If an employer wants to shift more of the cost to employees, we can reduce the employer’s contribution and raise the employee contribution to the cost of the class.
