Kristin Stout

I took a three-day Basics class back in 1998. It seems like another lifetime ago and also like yesterday. First, because I can’t believe how much I still remember, including the cheers of my classmates. Second, because although I feel like remembering the nineties makes me old, it also reveals how long IMPACT Bay Area has been making a difference and empowering people in their daily lives.

While it has been around for decades, IMPACT has expanded its scope significantly since 1998, reaching more youth, LGBTQ+, and BIPOC communities in addition to all ages of women. The courses include more information on boundaries that apply to daily life as well as the consistent physical tools and practices that help in more threatening situations.

I am thrilled to join the board of this organization and can’t share enough positive comments about their work. From the new director, to the “suits” and “whistles” and volunteers, IMPACT is empowering people in our Bay Area communities.

My background is primarily in high school education, in teaching and administration. In 1999, I was teaching and wrote a grant and was able to bring IMPACT to my high school to work with young women who were recent immigrants. The empowerment and confidence I witnessed was inspiring and brought my passions together in one space. Through serving on the board, I hope to continue the mission to empower women of all ages to move through the world with more confidence.

My family includes my husband, two children, and my parents who still live on the Peninsula. I can’t wait for my 19-year old daughter to have the chance to experience a BIPOC course to empower her in significant ways.
